We’re looking for a rental space!
Thanks to all our collective (that includes you!) hard work during Raise the Roof, we raised enough funds to begin looking for our first permanent rental space! The board is actively reviewing rental properties for our perfect first home.
Thanks to MakeATX for #lasertrash!
We’ve like to give a special shout out to MakeATX #lasertrash! Thanks!
Our very own Carole LeClair stopped by KXAN’s Studio 512 to talk about Austin Creative Reuse! In case you missed it:
Thank you to everyone who came out for our Raise the Roof event on November 7th. It was a huge hit and we had a blast.
Many, many thanks! And stay tuned for more to come!
FREE materials are up for grabs next week after SXSWeco!
Over the last year, SpinFish and SXSW have been able to keep over 10,000 pounds out of the landfill from all events that they’ve partnered on. Last year, they kept 1,275 pounds out of the landfill from the SXSW Eco event alone.
What items do you anticipate having at the end of the SXSW Eco conference?
We’re currently anticipating foamcore, vinyl/canvas banners, pallets, promo materials. New items will be added as we get closer to the event.
Does it cost me anything?
Items are FREE, but you are responsible for picking up the items on Tuesday, October 7th or Wednesday, October 8th.
Do I have to be a nonprofit or other organization?
Nope! Recipients DO NOT need to be a non-profit or organization.
When do I need to pick up items?
Item pick up will be on October 7th and October 8th, 2014. They won’t be able to hold items for you after that date.
How do I sign up or schedule a time to pick up FREE materials?
Email Renee at SpinFish for more information and scheduling: firstname.lastname@example.org
How can I help?
Definitely spread the word to all your teacher and artist friends who could use these materials! And email Renee at SpinFish. They might need volunteers.
Reducing is becoming aware of the excessive and the unnecessary and then minimizing your material consumption.
Recycling gets the most publicity of the “Three R’s” and we’ve made it pretty easy to do in our communities. Recycling is the process of taking old items (usually paper, plastic, glass, and metals) and re-manufacturing to make “new” products.
Like recycling, reusing is a way to deal with “waste” – but it’s way more fun! We define reusing as taking something that’s ended its current lifecycle and putting it to a new use that doesn’t require re-manufacturing (like with recycling). You might also call it upcycling.
Can you look at an item and see its potential as part of something else, whether it’s something beautiful or something practical (or both)? That’s creative reuse! In supporting creative reuse, you help reduce the flow into the landfill just like recycling, but you also support resourcefulness, creativity, and community.
This fall, we’re asking you to think about your trash in a new way. We need a permanent community and retail space to help take Austin Creative Reuse to the next level. Become a supporter of a new #Austin and donate now. You’ll even receive a handmade reuse gift as our way of saying thanks! http://austincreativereuse.org.

Why hasn’t Austin Creative Reuse moved into a space yet?
This is question we get a lot and to be 100% transparent we just don’t have the money yet. We will soon be launching an exciting campaign to raise the funds to finally open a community and retail center. We hope you’ll reach into your wallet to make a donation and support a creative reuse center in Austin. Stay tuned!

The Tesla Project — Success!
Many thanks to everyone who made the Tesla Project a success! It was great fun creating robots out of reuse materials at our creative station.
Reuse Connex Speakers Announced
Reuse Connex has listed the speakers for the 2014 Reuse Connex event to be held in Austin on October 23-25.
With over 800 attendees at this years Tesla Project (a celebration of all things Nikolai Tesla), our “Creation Station” was swamped with inventors young and old making cool new stuff out of stuff ACR rescued from the land fill.
Here’s our recipe for the fantastic fantasy gizmos :
The whole event was overseen by ACR’s own “landfill” robot named NIK (Nosensical Integrated Komputer).
Many thanks to Women Printmakers of Austin for hosting us in their beautiful workspace. We’re looking forward to holding more “Creation Station” events in the future.
