Volunteer Legend: Carole LeClair

What do dumpster diving, handmade clothing and president of our board of all have in common? Carole LeClair is what they have in common! Whether she's testing machines, approving meeting minutes or renting a van to haul unused frames from a dumpster, Carole is on it! She not only talks the talk, she walks the walk. That's why we're incredibly excited to announce our very own RecognizeGood volunteer legend, Carole LeClair!

On Tuesday, May 3rd, Carole was honored by Recognize Good for her legendary contribution of more than 9,500 hours of service to ACR over the last ten years! 😱 Be sure to give her a big high five the next time you see her in the center.

What motivates you to volunteer?

Pretty sure I joined ACR as a volunteer, then board member just so I would have something really fun to do once my kids graduated from high school.  Being retired, it is so awesome to go to a place where everyone knows your name and is happy to see you.

Why ACR?

ACR marries my two passions in life, conservation and creativity.

How long have you volunteered with ACR?

I started attending the ACR monthly meet ups back in 2013 and quickly realized I wanted to do more.  I joined the board and worked to get us into our first brick and mortar location in 2015.

Are you more into the arts aspect of ACR or the conservation aspect and why?

It is a tie in that department.  I love crafting and have created several ACR tutorials but dumpster diving has its appeal as well.  My husband and I once found a dumpster so promising (full of brand new frames and photo boxes)  that we rented a van to haul it all back to ACR!

Where else have/do you volunteer?

I’m always up for volunteering.  I’ve volunteered at my kids’ schools, Girl Scouts, Society of Women Engineers, It’s my Park Day, Texas Campaign for the Environment and lots of other one off’s.

What do you enjoy the most out of volunteering at ACR?

Absolutely the staff and volunteers I meet.  Many have become my closest friends.

Do you have any interesting or funny stories about something that happened while you were volunteering at ACR?

The time we accepted 10,000 misprinted cans!  Seemed like there were just pallets everywhere.  We tucked them into an unused store front at The Linc.  Our landlord was gracious about it to a point but we had to unload those guys fast!
