Artist Spotlight: Marian Moore

Each month, we highlight one of the talented artists in our reuse community. This month, it’s artist Marian Moore (she/her) of SMDesigns by Meroe!

Marian shares her creative process and how she puts her own meaningful touch on each of her pieces. Continue reading below to learn more!

1. When did you start making your art?

I developed an interest in art at an early age, but didn’t fully immerse myself until 2022. I initially started off with clay, but became curious about other artistic media such as paint, card stock, and dotting tools. As a result, I started to incorporate those elements into my art.

2. Which aspect of creating is your favorite?

Ideation and implementation are key to my creative process. During the ideation phase, I identify sources of inspiration, gather information and materials, and brainstorm the possibilities. The implementation stage is where the final product comes to fruition.

3. Where do you get your inspiration?

My inspiration comes from a variety of sources, but mainly from nature, floral designs, and the symmetrical circular patterns and designs found in mandalas. I am inspired by and drawn to art that uses geometric and circular patterns. The purpose behind my art is to translate these concepts into my creative expressions and absorb the viewer into a state of inner peace and reflection.

4. What is your preferred way to engage with your audience?

I prefer to engage with my audience in-person via art fairs/markets and events. However, the best way to connect with me is through Instagram.

5. How does reuse play a part in your creativity?

Reuse plays an important part in my art and creative process. I like the idea of transforming used material into works of art. I’m extending the life of the materials and using it in a more meaningful and purposeful way.

6. What compels you to donate to ACR?

I am a mission driven artist and support the efforts and mission of ACR. I believe in giving back and hope that my donated materials inspire others.

7. Do you have a favorite ACR find? How did you use it?

That is a difficult question. Each find has a unique purpose and adds to my creative expressions. For example, I use your cardstock to make my cards, paint to embellish my ring dishes, and scrapbook paper to make gift envelopes.

8. Where can we find out more about your work?

You can find me on Instagram at SMDesigns by Meroe.
