Summer of Service is back, hurrah! We will be adding some additional volunteering opportunities throughout the summer to give all our new volunteers more ways to participate. Check out the details of each event to see what we will be processing!
These are indoor and seated events located at Austin Creative Reuse in Windsor Park. You will be helping out in a room that can be a bit warm in the summer, so we suggest you keep this in mind when dressing for the event.
Austin Creative Reuse is a Austin based non-profit that aims to foster conservation, education, and community building through the creative reuse of old items and the reuse of creative items! We take in ~50,000 lbs. of donations every month and we rely on volunteers to help us process all those donations! Most items we resell at our center at very accessible price points, but we also donate supplies to schools, and attend community events to teach our youngest generations about creative reuse.
For this event we will be tackling one of our specialist projects, Linens! We typically require core volunteers to go through a bit of training before they can process linens on their own. For this event, we will have some of our dedicated linens volunteers helping us learn the ins and outs of the process. This is a great opportunity for anyone who has been intrigued by our linens section and would like to learn more about how they can be a part of the magic at ACR! Sign up here.

Austin Area Quilt Guild x ACR Collaboration: Gift of Quilting - Hill Country Landscapes
ACR is thrilled to be hosting a series of free classes taught by the Austin Area Quilt Guild!
In this 3-hour workshop, participants will complete a simple 11x14 inch landscape, without using a pattern. Fabric, background, fusible, glue, and batting will be available for every participant. You can also bring some of your own fabrics to use - think of earth, ground, small flower or tree prints and water/sky-colored fabrics to use to complete your landscape.
AAQG member Marie Welsch will teach the class. Marie's quilting journey began in decorative painting of many t-shirts needing a new life as quilts. She started with a small sewing machine, took classes, and moved through many types of quilting, landing happily in the art quilt arena. Marie wants to share her ideas about the freedom of going on a spontaneous and fun-filled art quilt journey.
Class Fee: $ FREE
You will need to bring:
Sewing Machine with all accessories, power cord, and foot control.
NOTE: If you do not own a portable sewing machine, then after registering please email giftofquilting@aaqg.org so we know how many machines to bring to the workshop.
Basic Sewing Supplies - scissors, machine needles, thread, seam ripper, straight pins/clips.
Cutting Mat, rotary cutter, and ruler, if you have them. Marie will have these available for shared use during class.
For more info and to register, see the AAQG website.
