August Reuse & [Re]Think Winner: Phyllis!

This month, we challenged you to [re]think what you can do with corks. We’re excited to announce the winner: Phyllis!

“When I heard about the challenge, I wondered, what could be made from corks? They reminded me of large beads, but I was curious whether they could be altered both in shape and color. I was inspired by jewelry artisans on IG and Pinterest, but especially @bethcanpaint's multicolor wood bead necklaces. I love her cheerful rainbow palette!”

Phyllis created the cork beads by using a serrated bread knife to cut the cork, and sanded the edges to get them smooth. She then used a regular drill with a 1/8” bit to get the holes.

The results are incredible and our judges fell in love with the necklaces in an instant! They’re lightweight, fashionable pieces that incorporate the material so well, you’d never know they were corks! Congratulations, Phyllis - enjoy your ACR gift card!

Here are some of the other entries we received this month. The contest was a close one - there were so many great ideas!
