Artist Spotlight: Ana Vidina Hernández

This month, we're hanging out with Ana Vidina Hernández (she/her) from Vidina Visions, a multi-disciplinary artist who proves creativity has no limits.

Ana tells us everything, from how her second artistic awakening happened to how she now finds the magic in repurposed materials. She believes in the power of "play" and the part it plays in creative exploration, and we know you’ll love seeing how it manifests in her beautiful works of art!

When did you start working as a multi-disciplinary artist?

I have always worked as a multi-disciplinary artist in music performance, songwriting, and dance. In 2022, I began exploring mixed media visual arts after I read The Artist's Way and rediscovered my passion for creativity.

Which aspect of creating is your favorite?

Play! I love trying new art techniques and styles, combining unusual materials, and feeling a child-like joy at exploring varying colors, textures, and ideas.

Where do you get your inspiration?

A lot of my inspiration comes from nature - I pretty much can't visit a national park without writing a song or thinking of a painting I'd like to try. I also am inspired by my relationships, outer space, and my imagination.

What is your preferred way to engage with your audience?

I absolutely loved vending at the Creative Reuse market and interacting with folks in-person. I also enjoy posting videos of my process on Instagram and seeing how people react to them!

How does reuse play a part in your creativity?

I get most of my materials from the Austin Creative Reuse. There is something magical about seeing a familiar shape or object in a new way and reimagining what it could be. I always find something surprising when I'm looking through reuse materials, and I think that keeps my imagination at play.

What compels you to donate to ACR?

I love the idea of my art supplies getting a second home with someone who will enjoy it more than I will. I also love the mission of ACR and the constant flow of creativity!

Do you have a favorite ACR find? How did you use it?

I turned a cabinet door into a fairy door and got to try some wood carving that I hadn't done before. It felt like exploring a new world!

Where can we find out more about your work and what you do?

I share my creative projects on instagram @vidinavisions. I also own my own business, Vidina Visions Consulting, where I help people and organizations bring their ideas to life! You can check out my musicals, songwriting, and short stories/poems on the website as well.
