With the closing of all Joann Fabric and Craft Store locations nationwide, we know that finding the craft supplies for your next project just got a little trickier - but we think creative reuse centers could be the solution! We may be a little biased, but we think creative reuse centers are pretty great and can provide all the supplies you need (and more!) to make your crafty dreams a reality, and at a fraction of the cost of big-box craft stores. It may take a little extra time and effort to find the supplies that you’re looking for, but you can be sure that your choice to shop secondhand will have a greater positive impact on your community and the world.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of creative reuse centers around Texas to help you find your new favorite crafty haven. Keep in mind that every creative reuse center is unique. Some are huge (like us!) and some are tiny, some are nonprofits (like us!) and some are for-profit companies, but we all have the same mission of diverting creative materials from the landfill and getting them into the hands of our creative community members at affordable prices. These spaces are true havens of creativity and community and offer so much more than just a cheap place to get craft supplies. We are all working towards creating a better, more sustainable world for ourselves and our neighbors.

Give these cool spots a visit next time you find yourself craving crafting and connection, and if you don’t have a local creative reuse spot, consider starting one with some crafty friends! ACR was founded by just a handful of passionate volunteers who sought to create the space they wanted to see in Austin, and we have absolutely flourished since then. You could do the same in your community!
