Staff Spotlight: Trin Ho

Each month we highlight one of the wonderful folks who make the magic happen at ACR.

This month we're spotlighting Retail Reuse Specialist, Trin Viet Ho. Trin had applied to ACR for a past position that we actually offered her. At the time she was still in school and felt it would conflict with her time schedule. When this position opened up and she reapplied we were thrilled to bring her on board! She has become a welcome team player in no time at all and we love having her on the Retail team. Come by the Center to talk fiber arts or let them know what you are working on!

Read on to learn more about Trin and her passion for sustainability and accessibility!

How did you find Austin Creative Reuse?

I tagged along with my roommate a few years ago because they needed some fiber art things!

What’s your favorite part about working at ACR?

I love connecting with my coworkers and Austin community members. So many people make interesting, beautiful art here, and it’s such a treat to witness.

How’d you end up as a Retail Reuse Specialist at ACR?

After experience in sustainability and customer service at UT Outpost, a food pantry and career closet for UT students, I wanted to continue on my sustainability/accessibility journey. Working at an arts non-profit that makes art/crafts more accessible while reducing waste felt like a perfect fit for me.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve found donated to ACR?

One day, we got a truckload full of HUGE, beautiful paintings. They were abstract, and the way the artists played with color/texture was very cool.

Are you an artist, crafter, or maker? What mediums do you work with? What kinds of arts and crafts do you like to do?

I’m a bit of it all. My foundation is fiber arts, specifically crochet. I make tops, political pieces, and do mixed fiber arts (weaving on canvas bones and attaching yarn). I am also dabbling in mosaic making, candle making, collage, and watercolor. I love using creative mediums to explore feelings, complicated ideas, making statements, and also making people laugh. You can find me and my shenanigans @lickitbutdont on instagram!

What do you do when you’re not working at ACR/what other hobbies do you have?

I am a big nature nerd. I love watching birds, bugs, critters, and identifying plants. I also write poetry, dance for funsies, hang out with friends, and thrift.

Do you have any children or pets?

I have a cat named Hugo, also known as Hughes, Mr. Baby, Honey Bee, Huge-o, the house dog. He’s a vocal clown, lover of sun rays, being fed often, chatting with human friends, and chest rubs.

Are you from Austin? If so, tell us about your experience here! If not, where are you from and what brought you here?

I moved here three years ago for school (I graduated last December with a B.A. in Race, Indigeneity, and Migration at UT Austin). I grew up in Sugar Land and lived in Houston for a bit while studying theatre at the University of Houston. I’ve come to love the Austin communities I’ve grown to belong to (shout out to Disability Dialogues, Free Food Forrest, and Collection Rert!).
