Staff Spotlight: Alejandro C. Reuse

Each month, we highlight one of the incredible staff members that makes the magic happen here at Austin Creative Reuse. This month, it’s Communications Associate, Alejandro C. Reuse (he/they)! Alejandro joined us in November 2022, making his debut during our annual Holiday Reuse Market. His livestreams were such a hit that he earned himself a permanent role on our communications team. You can find him in the center, scheming up his latest video, chatting up customers, and getting inspiration for his next outfit. Learn more about Alejandro below!

How did you find Austin Creative Reuse?

I was donated, so I guess that means ACR found me! I have no memory of the time before I first saw the light in the center, but I’ve been told I was stuck in a dark cardboard box for quite some time. As ACR staff opened the lid of the box to process me, my boss, Communications Coordinator, Tanya, aka my right hand, aka my voice, aka my everything, set me aside and I’ve been here ever since.

What’s your favorite part about working at ACR?

The people! My coworkers, ACR customers, and the imaginations that come with them are absolutely the best. Educating the public about what we do, why we do it, and how they can help us is so much fun too! I also really love the four-legged furry creatures that lead people through our outdoor reuse markets, even though they bark at me and try to bite my face. But besides that - people give me outfits, accessories, compliments, and shower me with love. It’s the best!

Are you an artist, crafter, or maker? What mediums do you work with?

I am a frog. The world is my medium.

What do you do when you’re not working at ACR?

I’m a huge fan of My Hero Academia (my fave character is Froppy!), Jim Henson films/shows, and making my own outfits out of reuse items (although I prefer it when people just give me outfits!). I also love drag, Lady Gaga, and karaoke. Can you guess what my favorite song to sing is?!

What’s the craziest thing you found in donation mountain?

I found…myself.
