Fabric & Yarn Donation Drive: December 16-21, 2025
If you’ve been to our center recently, you may have noticed that our fabric and yarn sections have been looking a little…empty. There are many reasons for this, including the recent closure of Joann’s across the country, meaning folks have fewer places to buy craft supplies with ACR closing a bit of the gap, and our donation appointment policy, which has resulted in slightly fewer donations coming through our doors than in the past. If you’re curious about why our donation appointment policy came into effect and why it’s so vital for the health and safety of our staff and volunteers, please check out this video with perspectives from our dedicated Processing team.
Fabric and yarn have always been big sellers in our center, and we’ve seen an increase in customers at the center over the past year, meaning that already in-demand items are getting snapped up even more quickly than before, and our shelves empty out as soon as we put out new items. We’re looking at a variety of solutions to this problem, and have landed on one that may be able to address the immediate issue of not having enough of these items in stock while we work on more longterm solutions in the background.
Announcing: a fabric and yarn donation drive! For one week only, from Tuesday, December 16 through Sunday, December 21 (the week before we shut our doors for winter break!) we will be accepting donations of fabric and yarn at the register without an appointment. We have dedicated fabric and yarn-processing volunteers ready, willing, and able to process these specific items over the winter closure so we can start the new year with fully-stocked shelves! If you have items other than fabric and yarn to donate, we ask that you make an appointment to donate those items as they will require more processing capacity than we have at this time.
Thank you so much to our incredible community for continuing to support Austin Creative Reuse as we grow and adapt to our community’s needs. This year has brought many changes to our organization, but all have been made with stability and longevity in mind. We celebrated a full decade of having a brick and mortar space this past September, and we look forward to at least a decade more of serving the Austin community!
