Q3 Reuse & [Re]Think Winner: Joan C!

Last quarter, we challenged our reuse community to reimagine CD cases, and after reviewing all submissions, our panel of judges is excited to congratulate the winner of 2024’s Q3 Reuse & [Re]Think Challenge - Joan C!

Joan created a dragonfly standing on top of a flower tree using CD cases (96%) and mica powder for dyeing, black acrylic paint for body outlines and legs, three pieces of rhinestones for eyeballs, and paperclips for legs and body armature (4%). Our panel was so impressed by the complete overhaul of this material to make this beautiful piece and expressed that it shows how reuse can still be an option for folks making high level art.

"The dragonfly’s wings are cd cases with scraped lines, trimmed with [a] rotary tool. Scraped lines then painted with acrylic wash paint. The base is two cd cases cut into circle. The rest are all cd cases melted with acetone and dyed with mica powder.” - Joan C.

Absolutely stunning! We hope you enjoy your ACR gift card, Joan!
